An Introduction to Quantitative Genetics

It has been my wish to write a book on quantitative genetics (QG) for many years. The main reason is that almost all existing books on QG start with the so-called single locus model. It might have been the “natural” thing to do when the inheritance of the continuous variation was being “reconciled” with the Mendelian inheritance, there is no need for that sort of apologetic approach anymore. Starting with single locus model has also a negative effect, i.e. those who come contact only briefly with QG get the wrong impression that the majority of continuous variation follows single locus model, which I challenge strongly. In fact, I maintain that single locus model is just a model, a mental construct, and it has no correspondence with real life.

I will not go into the details of why I am writing this book alone, and how I intend to involve future co-authors. For the time being, I just place preliminary versions of different chapters here. Please let me know what you think about these chapters or the book in its entirety.
